Rudolf Kühnl

Rudolf Kühnl (born February 18, 1902 in Falkenau an der Eger , Bohemia ; † July 19, 1975 in Salzhausen ) was a German architect and a lecturer at the art college in Hamburg during the Nazi era .

Life

Rudolf Kühnl was born as the son of Vinzenz Kühnl (1874–1921), a mining clerk of the Zieditz-Haberspirker brown and coal union, and Theresia, née. Heidler (1876–1948) was born in Falkenau.

After graduating from high school in 1921, he attended the Technical University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he simultaneously enrolled at the University of Education and Philosophy. He was a master student of Professors P. Behrens and Clemens Holzmeister . He has received several awards for his work, including the Rome Prize , the highest award in the Academy's final semester. In 1924 he graduated (diploma). He was the winner of numerous competitions, including for the Karlsbader Sprudelhalle.

From 1928 he worked as a freelance architect in Hamburg, where he was appointed lecturer at the art college in 1933. During the war he worked as an architect and government building officer and settled in Salzhausen in 1943 after the family in Hamburg had been bombed out .

The main focus of his work was residential and urban development in northern Germany, especially in Hamburg and the surrounding area. In 1950 he was commissioned to build the North-East German Academy in Lüneburg , through which he gained recognition. The academy was founded by the national politician and sociologist Max Hildebert Boehm .

Rudolf Kühnl earned his merit by producing historical city views, such as those of Falkenau an der Eger 1620 and 1700, Salzhausen and Hanstedt around 1650, and Maria Kulm 1825. He also made genealogical and historical contributions to Falkenau an der Eger.

He was since 1931 with Thea, geb. Treffel (1910–1962) from Hamburg married and had two sons and two daughters with her.
