Rudolf Kink (born March 24, 1822 in Kufstein ; † August 20, 1864 in Natters ) was an Austrian administrative officer and historian.

Life

Kink was the son of the district judge of Kufstein Johann Georg Kink (1789–1864), but grew up with his grandfather Johann Martin Kink in Innsbruck and attended the local high school. Kink also studied in Innsbruck afterwards. First he completed the two-year "philosophical courses" in order to follow up with a law degree, which he continued in Padua and finally finished in Vienna . He was friends with Hans von Perthaler, Rudolf Handel and Friedrich List . In 1843 Kink entered the civil service as a judge, first at the Ernberg district court in Reutte in Tyrol, and a short time later at the Tyrolean governorate in Innsbruck. From 1846 to 1847 he worked at the Trient district office , then again at the Innsbruck regional council. In Innsbruck he also made the acquaintance of Albert Jäger , who aroused his interest in history. He helped organize the archive of the Castle Windenau and received the first instructions for scientific work. His first historical script was written in 1849/50, and in 1848 Kink became a private lecturer at the University of Innsbruck and gave lectures on Tyrolean history. In 1851 he went to the Austrian Ministry of Education. Here, too, he continued to work scientifically and wrote a history of the University of Vienna. In 1854, Kink became a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences. In the same year he went to Troppau as a regional councilor, culture and teaching officer for the Silesian regional government . However, he stayed there only eight months before he was called back to the Ministry of Education and Culture as Secretary of State. In 1858, Kink was appointed to the council of the Lieutenancy of the Coastal Land and a consultant for religious and educational matters in Trieste . Here Kink hardly had time for his own historical research. In the same year he married Marie Freiin von Handel (1827-1910). In 1862 and 1863 he had to undergo longer courses.
