Rudolf Kobert (around 1900)

Eduard Rudolf Kobert (born January 3, 1854 in Bitterfeld , † December 27, 1918 in Rostock ) was a German medical historian and pharmacologist .

Rudolf Kobert studied medicine in Halle and was ibid 1877 with a thesis on Terpentinölwirkung doctorate . First he worked at the medical clinic and polyclinic in Halle under the direction of Weber, later as Goltz's assistant in Strasbourg, then for six years as Schmiedeberg's assistant. Without having completed his habilitation, he was appointed professor of pharmacology , dietetics and the history of medicine in Dorpat in 1886 . In 1890 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

His fundamental pharmacological work on saponins, ricin, Amanita phalloides, etc., dates from this time. Due to the Russification of the university, he resigned from his position in 1896 and took over the management of the Brehmers' institutions in Görbersdorf. How seriously he took this task, which was further from him, is shown by his institution reports. In 1899 he accepted a position as professor of pharmacology, physiological chemistry and medical history at the University of Rostock , where he died on December 27, 1918.

Kobert wrote a large number of primarily pharmacological and toxicological papers, dealt with ergot preparations (and developed Cornutin, which is similar to ergotinine but more soluble , from 1884 to 1886 ) and also emerged as the editor of medical history works.
