Rudolf Koeckert

Rudolf Josef Koeckert (born June 27, 1913 in Großpriesen near Aussig , Bohemia , Czech: Velké Březno; † September 7, 2005 in Munich ) was a German violinist .

Life

Up to 1938 Koeckert studied in the master class of the Prague Conservatory and from 1939 to 1945 he was concertmaster of the "German Philharmonic Orchestra Prague", which moved to Bamberg after the Second World War and took on the name Bamberg Symphony Orchestra . Koeckert was concert master there from 1946 to 1947. He then moved to Munich, where he was first concertmaster of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for 30 years from 1949 . From 1952 he was also professor for violin playing at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg .

In 1939 Koeckert founded the “Sudeten German String Quartet ” together with former fellow students , which was later renamed the “Prager German String Quartet”; This ensemble performed in Bamberg from 1947 (from 1949 based in Munich) under the name Koeckert Quartet and made a name for itself in the following years on numerous concert tours at home and abroad, including the premieres of chamber music works by many contemporary composers. In 1950, Rudolf Koeckert discovered a hitherto unknown string quartet in C minor by Anton Bruckner (1824–1896) and published it in print (Vienna 1956). In 1982 he withdrew from the Koeckert Quartet.
