Rudolf Massini the Elder

Rudolf Massini the Elder (born November 8, 1845 in Basel ; † December 13, 1902 there ) was a Swiss internist , professor and university rector as well as chief medical officer in the army .

biography

Massini studied at the Universities of Basel , Göttingen , London , Edinburgh and Vienna . On February 20, 1868, he passed the cantonal state examination with a dissertation on the antipyretic effect of Veratrine and received a doctorate in medicine and surgery with the grade summa cum laude on March 15 of that year , practiced from 1871 and taught as a private lecturer from 1872 the subjects of pathology and therapy .

Two years later, Massini worked as an assistant doctor in the polyclinic of the community hospital in Basel , where he became associate professor in 1877 and director in 1882. In 1890 he became a full professor and director of the newly established state polyclinic and in 1897 rector of the University of Basel . In his military career he was a corps doctor from 1892 and in 1897 he was appointed chief medical officer for the army.

Massini was married to Louise Meyenrock. Their sons Rudolf and Max later also became physicians in Basel.
