Rudolf Philippi (historian)

Rudolf Philippi (born December 2, 1821 in Königsberg , † May 1897 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian archivist and historian .

Life

Rudolf was a son of the music teacher Karl Wilhelm Philippi and Charlotte, geb. Bantau. After attending grammar school, he studied philosophy and history at the Albertus University in Königsberg . From 1855 to 1864 he worked for the New Prussian Provincial Papers . It was only after 10 years of working in the Königsberg State Archives that he was accepted there on the recommendation of Meckelburg as an unskilled worker and received remuneration since 1868 . In 1871 he was promoted to the official archives secretary, in the summer of 1874 to the archivist and in the winter of the same year to the state archivist of the State Archives in Königsberg. Philippi had been a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Sea Provinces of Russia since 1876 . In 1882 he finally became archivist. At the beginning of 1887, after having been on leave since October of the previous year, he retired .
