Rudolf Seifert (canoeist)

Rudolf Seifert (* 1934 in Spremberg ) is a former German canoeist and canoe trainer .

Career

The canoe racer of the SG Einheit Spremberg won a bronze medal at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Augsburg in 1957 together with Waltraud Schal in the single-canoe team mixed. At the Canoe Slalom World Championships in 1959 in Geneva in a two-man Canoe team with Manfred Glöckner he won a gold medal and at the Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal in 1963 in Spittal again with Manfred Glöckner in a two-man Canoe team, he also won a gold medal.

Seifert has been a member of the Canoe Sports Association since 1948 and was discovered by the head trainer of the former GDR team Rudi Landgraf during a course at the canoe base in Spremberg. After graduating from high school in 1953, he went to study at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . After initial sporting successes, the coaching staff decided that Rudolf Seifert should practice canoe slalom as a competitive sport. When he first took part in a world championship in canoe slalom in 1957 in Augsburg, he and Waltraud Schade achieved a remarkable third place.

After completing his studies, Seifert worked from 1958 to 1963 at the DHfK Institute for Water Sports and Winter Sports in the training of students and coaches. In 1963 he ended his career in active competitive sports and returned to Spremberg at the age of 29. There he worked as a canoe slalom trainer. He started his professional career as a teacher of sports and English, where he worked until 1999. At the beginning of his retirement , Seifert again took over a Spremberger training group in canoes.

Rudolf Seifert has been with Ingeborg geb. Fellisch married. She herself was a canoeist in canoe racing and won the GDR championship title in the upper youth class in 1959 in a four-man. The couple has 3 children who are active in sports again, the daughter runs a marathon.
