Rudolf Werner (filmmaker)
Rudolf Werner (born March 6, 1941 in Elbing / East Prussia ) is a German journalist and documentary filmmaker. He became known as a long-time television editor and director of the SWR , which received numerous film awards.
Life
Werner made his Abitur in 1961 in Landau, Palatinate . He learned the profession of journalist with an internship at the Pfälzer Tageblatt in Landau and further training at the German Institute for Journalism in Düsseldorf. After graduating from 1963 to 1966, he worked three years as an editor for the daily newspaper Mannheimer Morgen . Then in 1966 he switched from print to television to work as an editor and filmmaker at Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart. After the merger of SDR and SWF, he found himself again as editor of the culture and society department of the SWR in Baden-Baden.
The main focus of his work as a filmmaker was documentary portraits of personalities, institutions and landscapes. He was also responsible for many years as an SWR background reporter at the Olympic Games and World Championships. This resulted in numerous film portraits of athletes, for example about Boris Becker , Dieter Baumann , René Weller , Patriz Ilg , Emil Beck and Klaus Schlappner . In 1975 he dedicated the critical documentary The Ball is Round to the German Football Association . He has been working as a freelance journalist since 2002.
Rudolf Werner has lived for decades in Annweiler am Trifels , a climatic health resort in the southern Palatinate Forest in Rhineland-Palatinate .
