Rudolf von Zwerger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudolf von Zwerger (born November 8, 1902 in Stuttgart , † April 1945 in Berlin ) was a German geologist ( petroleum geology ) and geophysicist.

Life

Rudolf von Zwerger was the son of a businessman and went to secondary school in Weimar . From 1921 he studied mining at the Bergakademie Freiberg , the TH Berlin and the Bergakademie Clausthal with a diploma as a mining engineer in 1927. During his studies, study trips took him to Romania, Spain and Spanish-Morocco.

From 1928 he worked as a geophysicist for the Ohio Oil Company in Shreveport and went on study trips to the USA. In 1929 he received his doctorate from the TH Aachen on an iron ore deposit in northern Portugal. He then worked as a geophysicist at Wintershall AG , for which he carried out geomagnetic measurements in Eichsfeld and in Thuringia. From 1932 he worked for the German Society for Mineral Oil Research and the Association of German Engineers as well as the magazine Oel und Kohlen . In 1934 he carried out geomagnetic measurements in Mecklenburg and, as a geophysicist at the Prussian State Geological Institute, took part in the geophysical survey of the Reich carried out at that time. There he was an employee of Otto Barsch (1879–1946). After the second state geological examination in 1938, he became a district geologist in 1941. During World War II he worked as a geophysicist in Poland, Russia, Austria, Hungary and the Balkans. In 1944 he completed his habilitation at the TH Berlin.

He died shortly before the end of the war from a shell hit, after he had been drafted into the Volkssturm .
