Rudolfus Collinus
Rudolfus Collinus , actually Rudolf Ambühl (* 1499 in Gundolingen, Canton Lucerne ; † March 9, 1578 in Zurich ) was a Swiss humanist and an important companion of Ulrich Zwingli . The word "Bühl" means "hill", hence the Latinization "Collinus" (from Latin collis hill ). Sometimes he also appeared as a clivanus (from Latin clivus slope ).
Life
After schools and studies in Beromünster , Lucerne , Basel , Vienna and Milan , he became a monastery teacher in the St. Urban monastery . In 1524 he moved to Zurich to support the Reformation and did a rope apprenticeship in order to be able to earn a living. In 1524 Colinus took part in a procession of radical supporters of the Waldshut Anabaptist community under Balthasar Hubmaier . In the same year he took part in the failed reconquest of Duke Ulrich von Württemberg . In 1526 he was appointed professor of Greek at the Carolinum by Zwingli . He took part in the Bern Disputation of 1528 and the Marburg Religious Discussion of 1529. He also wrote Latin translations of works by Euripides and Demosthenes as well as an autobiography.
