Rudolphus Leusden (also: Rudolf Leusdenus ; * 1671 in Utrecht ; † November 4, 1764 ibid) was a Dutch medic and mayor of Utrecht.

Life

The son of Johann Leusden and his wife Elizabeth van der Nijpoort, like his father, initially concentrated on studying the oriental languages. In 1691 he enrolled under the rectorate of Jacob Vallan at the University of Utrecht and on March 29, 1692 under Gerardus de Vries with the dissertation de Terra-motu acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. After further medical studies he enrolled again in 1694 at the Utrecht Academy, where he received his doctorate in medicine on June 14, 1694 under Johannes Munnicks with the Inaugural Disputation de Morbo regio .

On March 19, 1703, the curators of the Utrecht University appointed him associate professor of anatomy and surgery, which he took up on June 18, 1703 and held his introductory speech De anatomes utilitate et antiquitate on June 28 . On March 16, 1705 he became a full professor of anatomy and surgery. After he had headed the Utrecht University in 1707/08 and 1720/21 as rector of the alma mater , on June 7, 1723 he switched to the chair of practical medicine at the Utrecht Institute. In 1726 he asked to be dismissed from office because he had already been accepted into the city council of Utrecht in 1724. In 1726 he became a deputy of the Province of Utrecht in the State Council, later President of the Chamber of Finance and Mayor of the City of Utrecht.
