Rufus Gifford (born August 5, 1974 in Boston ) is an American diplomat , politician and campaign manager for the Democratic Party . He gained greater fame through the reality TV series Jeg er ambassadøren during his time as ambassador to Denmark .

Life

Gifford grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea . His father is Charles Gifford , a banker and former member of the Board of Directors of Bank of America . Rufus Gifford studied at Brown University and began working in the film industry in Los Angeles , which he later left.

Campaign staff

In 2004, he finally helped the campaign team for the then Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to raise 30 million US dollars for his campaign. Gifford was acting as deputy head of the West America fundraising team at the time. During the election campaign for the US presidential election in 2008 , he turned down an offer to work for Hillary Clinton's campaign team and instead joined the team of later US President Barack Obama . He worked as a fundraiser in southern California and generated revenues of $ 80 million. In the 2012 election , he was the head of Obama's funding campaign, the stated goal of which was to raise $ 1 billion.

Ambassador to Denmark

From September 13, 2013 to January 20, 2017, Gifford was the successor to Laurie Fulton as the United States' Ambassador to Denmark . He also gained notoriety in Denmark through the series Jeg er ambassadøren ( German : I am the ambassador ). As part of this program, which the TV broadcaster DR3 broadcast, he was filmed in his everyday life as an ambassador. The series was later also included in the program by Netflix . Return to the USA

In 2018 he was one of the Democratic Party candidates in Massachusetts in the running for a seat in Congress . In the Democratic primary, he reached fifth place with 15.1% of the vote and was therefore not a candidate for his party.

In April 2020, Joe Biden's team announced that Gifford had been hired as deputy campaign manager for the 2020 US presidential election . As such, he will again be responsible for financing the campaign, among other things.
