Rui Augusto Gomes (2020)

Rui Augusto Gomes (born September 21, 1958 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) is an academic and politician from East Timor . He does not belong to any party.

Career

Gomes received a PhD from London South Bank University . In 1998 he was a lecturer at the University of Porto .

On August 5, 2015, Gomes was appointed Chief of Staff ( tetum Xefe Kaza Sivíl ) by President Taur Matan Ruak , replacing Fidelis Leite Magalhães . Prior to that, Gomes was a personal advisor to the president on economic issues.

On September 15, 2017, Gomes was sworn in as Minister of Planning and Finance in the VII Government of East Timor . His term of office ended on June 22, 2018 when the Eighth Government of East Timor took office.

On June 8, 2020, Gomes was entrusted with leading the team to develop measures for East Timor's economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic .
