Rui da Silva (athlete)

Rui da Silva (born September 15, 1951 in Nilópolis , † May 5, 1999 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian sprinter .

At the Athletics South American Championships in 1974 in Santiago de Chile, he won over 100 m and 200 m .

In 1975 he defended his title at the South American Championships in Rio de Janeiro and was seventh over 100 m at the Pan American Games in Mexico City .

At the 1976 Olympic Games, he was fifth over 200 m and reached the semi-finals over 100 m .

In 1977 he came third at the World Cup in Athletics in Düsseldorf with the American team in the 4 x 100 meter relay and was again a double winner in the 100 m and 200 m at the South American Championships in Montevideo .

At the Pan American Games in San Juan in 1979 , he won bronze in the 4-by-100-meter relay and was fifth in the 100 m.
