Romania tour
The Tour of Romania ( Romanian Turul ciclist al României ) is a Romanian cycling race .
In 1931 the Federația Română de Ciclism , the Romanian cycling association, was founded, whose president Vasile Canarache , owner of the Bucharest newspaper Tempo , organized the first tour of Romania three years later. The stage race , which usually has its date in mid-June and usually comprises six or more stages, was not held annually thereafter. In the years after the Romanian Revolution in 1989 there were increased financing problems, which led to the race sections being relocated to where the road conditions and subsidies from local sponsors would allow them to be held. The race has been part of the UCI Europe Tour racing series since the 2008 season and is classified in category 2.2. Record winners are Mircea Romașcanu and Constantin Dumitrescu , who each won the race three times.
