The round tongue iris ( Iris cycloglossa ) is a species of the genus of the irises ( Iris ) within the family of the iridaceae .

The round tongue iris is a perennial herbaceous plant that usually reaches heights of about 40 (20 to 50) centimeters. This geophyte forms tubers, which are often incorrectly called " onions ", as persistence organs. The roots are thin.
The flowers are blue-violet and 8 to 10 centimeters in diameter. The standards measure approximately 4 by 1.3 centimeters. They are lanceolate and at first upright, later horizontal. The hanging leaves are about 7 inches long. Your plate has a diameter of 3.5 to 4 centimeters, no comb and is round. It is about twice as wide as the more or less elliptical and winged nail . The perigon tube is 3.5 to 4.5 inches long.
The flowering time is in May.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
The round-tongue iris occurs in south-west Afghanistan on moist locations that dry out in summer at the bottom of valleys at altitudes of 1450 to 1700 meters.
