Rupert Elgersma

Rupert Elgersma (* before 1515; † 1544/47) was a Dominican monk and provost of Cölln and Bernau .

Life

Rupert Elgersma came from Leeuwarden in Friesland . In 1515 he was a Dominican monk and was ordained a deacon . In 1519 he studied in Leipzig , then in Cologne and then lived in the Dominican monastery in Halle an der Saale. In 1524 Elgersma re-enrolled in Leipzig and held lectures there for the next two years. In 1527 he became a student in Frankfurt (Oder) .

In 1530 he accompanied Elector Joachim I to the Reichstag in Augsburg , where he and Konrad Wimpina , Wolfgang Redorfer and Johannes Mensing wrote an opposition to the Confessio Augustana of the Wittenberg theologians. He was referred to as a licentiate . In 1535 Elgersma described himself as the chaplain and confessor of Elector Joachim II , as doctor and provost of Bernau. In 1536 Elgersma became dean of the new collegiate monastery in Cölln. In the following years he was the elector's spiritual advisor. In 1544 he was provost of the collegiate monastery in Cölln. It is unclear whether he became a Protestant.

On April 1, 1547 Elgersma was declared dead.
