Life

Origin, education and first activities

Wolfgang Redorfer came from Herzogenrath in the Duchy of Limburg (or Herzogenaurach in Franconia ?). In 1488 he enrolled at the University of Leipzig , where he was awarded a baccalaureate in the liberal arts in 1491/92 . In 1495 he was secretary to Bishop Dietrich von Lebus . In 1504 he was mentioned as the owner of the altar to the Holy Cross in St. Mary's Church in Frankfurt. In 1506 he received his master's degree from the University of Frankfurt. At that time he was canon in Lebus.

Rector, Councilor and Provost

In 1513 he became rector of the University of Frankfurt. In 1514 he wrote a liturgy for the cathedral monastery Lebus / Fürstenwalde. Around 1520/23 Redorfer wrote a pamphlet against Reformation theology, and in 1524 another. In 1525 he wrote a land register for the Ruppin district . In that year he became provost of the cathedral monastery St. Nikolai in Stendal and was designated a doctor of both rights.

In the following years Redorfer appeared more often as a lawyer in legal decisions for the Electors of Brandenburg and as a witness in their documents. In 1530 he accompanied Elector Joachim I to the Reichstag in Augsburg , where he and Konrad Wimpina and others wrote a counterparty against the Confessio Augustana of the Wittenberg reformers. In 1532 he accompanied Bishop Georg von Lebus to the Reichstag in Nuremberg . In 1536 Redorfer became provost of the Collegiate Monastery of Cölln and in 1538 provost of Bernau.

Canon in Havelberg and Lebus

With the introduction of the Reformation in the Mark Brandenburg, Redorfer lost his offices from 1539. In 1542 he became canon in Havelberg, but refused to be elected dean of the cathedral in 1544. In 1548 he was mentioned as a senior in the cathedral monastery of Fürstenwalde (Lebus), which remained Catholic, and in 1539 as archdeacon . In 1540 Redorfer was elected the new bishop of Lebus , but could not take up the office because Elector Joachim II refused to give his consent. In 1552 he resigned from his office as canon in Havelberg.

The year of his death is unknown. (The year 1559 is only a guess by Wohlbrück.)
