action

The Paraguayan theater actress Ana Brun made her film debut as Chela.

Asunción , in the present: Chela and Chiquita have been a couple for over 30 years. The two women, who are beginning to be senior, come from the upper class of Paraguay's capital and never had to work themselves. While Chela is reluctant to leave the house and prefers to spend the day in front of her easel, Chiquita is extroverted and takes care of life together. Financial difficulties force the two to sell parts of their inherited furniture. Chela is upset about the sale of her beloved memorabilia, at the same time she is afraid of the possible social exposure and refuses alms from friends. The two women from Carmela, who Chiquita supports in dealing with authorities, receive help. Chela rejects the younger woman.

When Chiquita is charged with over-indebtedness and arrested, Chela is suddenly left on her own. She has to instruct the new housemaid Pati. To keep up appearances, the mutual friends are told that Chiquita is staying for a month in the Uruguayan seaside resort of Punta del Este . Although Chela does not have a driver's license, she sits down occasionally at the wheel of her old Mercedes 240 D . When their mutual friend asks Picuta to be driven to see friends, Chela complies with this request. Picuta insists on paying for the gasoline. As a result, an informal taxi service for rich, older women in the neighborhood begins to develop.

The Chela, who used to be more passive, begins to emancipate itself from the absent Chiquita. She helps Pati sell the furniture and makes the acquaintance of young, cheerful Angy on one of her trips. Although Chela has never driven the motorway before, she fulfills Angy's wish to drive her and her mother over the M2 to Haugua. Angy's mother has to undergo treatments in the hospital there. A close friendship develops between Chela and Angy. Angy teaches Chela to smoke and tells about her adventurous love life. She also begins to address Chela with "Poupée" (Eng. "Doll"), the nickname from her childhood. Chela begins to neglect Chiquita's regular visits to prison. When Angy leaves Haugua prematurely one day with her ex-boyfriend who suddenly appears, Chela feels offended. At the same time, an incident in prison gives her the impression that Chiquita might be having an affair with a fellow inmate. Chela then approaches her housemaid Pati.

When Chela is chauffeuring Picuta and other friends to a funeral, she happens to meet Angy again. She is bored in the evening and they both drive to Chela's home and drink wine. Angy tells Chela about her first threesome . When Chela comes back from the toilet, she finds Angy lying lasciviously on the bed. Chela then flees back to the toilet. The drunk Angy is indignant because she assumed that a night together was Chela's intention. Angy then leaves the house. Chela rushes after her in the car, but cannot find her and gets drunk. The next day, the hungover Chela sets out to visit Chiquita in prison, but made a mistake about the visiting day and sleeps off her intoxication on the spot. In the evening she tries in vain to reach Angy by phone. The next day, in the presence of Carmela, Chiquita unexpectedly returns home from prison and tells Chela that there is a buyer for the car. Chela threatens to revert to her former passivity. During the night she climbs to the roof of the house, where she is discovered and comforted by Pati. The next day, Chiquita discovers that Chela has disappeared by car.
