Rupert Gmoser

Rupert Gmoser (born May 6, 1931 in Graz ; † August 14, 2008 ) was an Austrian politician and long-time member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria ( SPÖ ) to the Austrian Federal Council and National Council .

Life

After elementary school he attended the humanistic grammar school in Graz 1941-1949. He completed his law studies in 1953 and political science in 1954 at the University of Graz with a doctorate. He was a civil servant in the tax office for fees and transfer taxes in Graz from 1954 to 1955, economic adviser to the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Styria 1955–1959, Chief Secretary of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Styria; 36 years head of the Otto Möbes School of Economics of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Styria 1958–1994; Professor since 1976. Rupert Gmoser had been a member of the SPÖ since 1955. He was chairman of the Association of Socialist Students in Austria / University of Graz 1951-1954, chairman of the working group for social research at the Austrian Trade Union Federation in 1961, member of the regional party executive of the SPÖ Styria 1975-1994. Gmoser was considered to be a "pioneer" of the Styrian SPÖ. He was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from January 31, 1978 to May 14, 1979 and a member of the Austrian National Council (XV. – XVIII. GP) in the SPÖ parliamentary group from June 5, 1979 to April 30, 1994.

Rupert Gmoser was married to Renate Gmoser. Son Peter Gmoser (* 1971) is a professional dressage rider.
