Big Quill No. 308 is a rural municipality in the province of Saskatchewan in Canada . It includes the southern and southeastern parts of Big Quill Lake , the largest of the three Quill Lakes , and extends south from there. The most important place is Kandahar . The independent small towns of Wynyard and Dafoe are enclaves within the municipality .
Highway 16 as part of the Yellowhead Highway and the railway line from Winnipeg to Saskatoon run in an east-west direction across the municipality . The small Wynyard airfield is also located on the territory .
The first European settlers in the area of the municipality came from Iceland , later Poles and Ukrainians also moved to the area. This is reflected in the only two listed resists buildings: Amma's House , built in 1919 by Icelanders at what was then the western edge of the Vatnabyggd settlement area identified, and St. John Bohoslav Krasne , a 1927 to 1964 in several steps for members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church built Church.
Big Quill Resources, Canada's largest producer of potassium sulfate, is of economic importance in the largely agricultural community . Formerly part of the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and now owned by the employees, the company has been part of Compass Minerals since 2011 . The mining of potash salts ( sylvinite and carnallitite ) in underground mining on the southern outskirts of Wynyard is, as of 2016, in the exploration phase .
