Ruslan Lyssenko ( Ukrainian Руслан Лисенко ; born May 18, 1976 in Welyki Budky, Sumy Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian biathlete .

Career

Lyssenko has been involved in biathlon since 1990 and has been a member of the Ukrainian national team since 1994. He starts for Dynamo Chernihiv and is trained by Mykola Soz.

Lyssenko made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in 1994 when he finished 44th in a single race in Bad Gastein . He collected his first World Cup points as part of the Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding in 1996 when he was 21st in the individual. From now on he took part in all biathlon world championships until 2006 . The best place in 1999 should be a sixth place in the Pokljuka singles . In 1998 the first of three Olympic competitions followed in Nagano . He had his best season in 1999/2000 . This year he reached two of his three top 10 finishes, including a second place behind Ole Einar Bjørndalen in an individual in Hochfilzen . At the European Championships in 2002 in Kontiolahti , he won silver behind the Germans with the Ukrainian relay team led by Oleksandr Bilanenko , Vyacheslav Derkatsch and Roman Pryma . At the beginning of the 2002/03 season Lysenko also started once in the European Cup in Ål and won a sprint race there.

Private

Lyssenko now lives in Chernihiv with his wife and daughter Anastasiya .
