Rut (formerly Nemški Rut , German Deutschruth ) is a village in Slovenia belonging to the municipality of Tolmin . It is located on the edge of the Triglav National Park in the Baška grapa valley.

Ruth is like the following neighboring villages:

  • Grant (German: German reason ),
  • Podbrdo (German: Deutscherberg am Mühlbach ),
  • Trtnik (German: Trettenich , also called German Trettenich ),
  • Znojile (German: Windfall, also called Winkenberg in German ),
  • Kuk (dt .: Sonneck, also called German Siebeneck ),
  • Stržišče (German: Wartenberg ),
  • Bača pri Podbrdu, (German: Fetschendorf ),
  • Petrovo Brdo (German: Petersberg ),
  • Porezen (German: Pursen ),
  • Obloke (German: Mühlenklamm in Gereuth ),
  • Hudajužna (German: Honsdorf ),
  • Kal (German: Kaal )
  • Koritnica ( Goritnich )

Originated in the 13th century by the settlement of immigrants from Tyrol . The settlers came from the area around Innichen in Hochpustertal . In the Middle Ages, the Hochpustertal was owned by the Hochstift Freising, which also owned the neighboring areas in the Upper Carniola around Bischofslack . The village of Deutschruth was part of the former German language island Zarz (Slovenian: Sorica). In 1880, German school lessons were abolished locally because, from the point of view of the Austrian school inspection, too few pupils still used German as their mother tongue. Even today, names (family names, district names, etc.) in the area testify to this history.

The Gothic church of St. Lambert is of art historical importance in Rut, especially because of its frescoes .
