Ruth Kalbermatten

Ruth Kalbermatten (born May 9, 1950 in Lalden , † May 16, 2014 in Bern ; resident in Baltschieder and Saas Grund ) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Career

After training in the commercial area, Ruth Kalbermatten worked in her parents' company in Gamsen . As a member of the CVPO , she was elected to the Visp municipal council and vice-president for the first time in 1988 . Four years later, she succeeded Mayor Peter Bloetzer . This enabled her to regain the presidential chair for her party after 48 years of interruption.

For the State Council elections of 1997 Ruth Kalbermatten was nominated by the CVPO to succeed State Councilor Richard Gertschen . She withdrew after the defeat in the first ballot against Peter Bodenmann . When National Councilor Otto G. Loretan resigned prematurely, she moved up to the National Council in 1999. She took the oath of office in traditional Valais costume. She was the first woman from Upper Valais to hold this position. In the 1999 National Council elections, she lost her mandate to her list colleague Jean-Michel Cina , the mayor of Salgesch .

Ruth Kalbermatten did not run for the municipal council elections in 2000 and turned her back on local politics. She began to raise money for the needy population in Zimbabwe and founded the Kasipiti Foundation in 2004. It was possible to convert a former prison into a dormitory and to open an orphanage in 2013.
