Ruth Ozeki
Ruth Ozeki (born March 12, 1956 in New Haven, Connecticut ) is a Japanese-American author.
Life
Ruth Ozeki grew up as the daughter of Mayan researcher Floyd Lounsbury and a Japanese woman in New Haven. She studied English and Asian Studies at Smith College and, on a scholarship from the Japanese government, Japanese literature at Nara University in Nara . In Japan she worked and also worked as a language teacher at the Sangyō University of Kyoto . In 1985 she returned to New York City and worked as an art director in the film industry and for television.
Her film Body of Correspondence (1994) received an award at the San Francisco Film Festival and was shown by the PBS . Her film Halving the Bones (1995) has also been shown at various film festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival , the World Film Festival in Montreal and the Margaret Mead Film Festival .
She studied Zen Buddhism with Zoketsu Norman Fischer and received her ordination in 2010 .
She lives with Oliver Kellhammer in the countryside in British Columbia , for writing she seeks the creative tranquility of a place like Hedgebrook , a women's writing workshop on Whidbey Island in Washington State .
