Ruud van Megen

Ruud CMW van Megen (born December 10, 1959 in Heerlen ) is a Dutch playwright , screenwriter and librettist .

After high school he studied Dutch and literature in Utrecht , then theater studies in Amsterdam . In 1987 he began writing for film, theater and television. The first director who became aware of van Megen was the later politician John Leerdam. The director Willem van de Sande Bakhuyzen (1957-2005) staged three of his works: De schrijver en de uitgever (Eng. The author and publisher) (1989), Uiteengaan in subgroepen (Eng. The separation into subgroups) (1991) and De Egyptische schaatser (Eng. The Egyptian speed skater) (1998).

On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the city of Delft , he wrote the libretto for the opera François Guyon by the Dutch composer Kees Olthuis in 1996 .

His last play De redenaar (dt. The speaker) was staged in 2005 by Porgy Franssen.
