Ryan Maki (born April 23, 1985 in Medford , New Jersey ) is a former American ice hockey player who last played for the Hannover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League from 2010 to 2012 .

Career

Ryan Maki began his career as a hockey player with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program , for which he played from 2001 to 2003 at the junior league North American Hockey League . He then attended Harvard University for four years and played for their ice hockey team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . He won the ECAC Hockey championship with his team in 2004 and 2006 .

Towards the end of the 2006/07 season Maki made his professional ice hockey debut for the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League . Previously, he was selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by Milwaukee's partner Nashville Predators in the sixth round as a total of 176 players. In the following three years the winger played almost exclusively for Milwaukee in the AHL and was assistant captain with the Admirals in his final season. Only towards the end of the 2007/08 season he was parallel in some games for the Cincinnati Cyclones in the ECHL on the ice, with which he could win the Kelly Cup .

For the 2010/11 season Maki received a contract with the Hannover Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League . Despite a lucrative job offer from his home country, the Harvard graduate extended his contract with Lower Saxony for another season in April 2011. In the summer of 2012, Maki decided to quit his professional career at the age of 27 in order to take up a job in the free market economy.
