Ryszard Zając
Ryszard Zając (born January 6, 1951 in Jelenia Góra ) is a Polish artist who works both as a sculptor and as a musician.
Life
From 1965 to 1968 Zając attended the Art High School in Jelenia Góra. He had to leave this in 1968 because of the participation in a demonstration against the invasion of the Warsaw Pact states in Czechoslovakia . He then studied from 1970 to 1973 at the music school in Jelenia Góra, from which he was expelled because of idiosyncratic compositions and texts. From 1972 he began to go his own artistic path and developed individual forms in sculpture and music. Among other things, three rock groups emerged in the 1970s to 1980s, in which he was responsible for text and music: Four Dimension , the Yeti group and Stern Wega . They played weekly in clubs in Jelenia Góras and the surrounding area. Zając attended English and German language courses, which made poems by Rainer Maria Rilke important to him. As a protest against war and military power, he dealt with Dadaism for several years and founded the artist group Synthesis . Several monumental wooden sculptures were created (among others in Cracow and Wroclaw ). From 1980 to 1984 he renovated the Norwegian stave church Wang in Karpacz . In the following years he changed the profile of his artistic work and began to compose music to the Bible texts. He converted to the evangelical church and founded the sacred music group Wang . Zając composed a variety of works reminiscent of a modern type of gospel, many pieces containing psalms, hymns and verses from the Bible. The group released two audio cassettes and a CD (Zespół WANG, "Prowadź nas, Panie"). Since 1984 the group has appeared on various occasions in European churches, often in connection with the art exhibitions of Ryszard Zając. As an internationally renowned artist, his works are represented in churches, private collections and exhibitions.
