Ryūji Miyamoto ( Japanese 宮本 隆 司 , Miyamoto Ryūji ; * 1947 in Setagaya , Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese documentary filmmaker and photographer .

Life

Miyamoto studied graphics at Tama Art University in Tokyo. In the following years he mainly dealt with photo and film work in the field of architecture . For example, a documentary was made about the demolition of the Great Playhouse in East Berlin in 1988 and the Cardboard Houses of the Tokyo homeless, which Miyamoto began in the 1980s and completed in 1994. Much of his photographic work deals with the destruction of architecture. Examples are the Kowloon Walled City and the effects of the 1995 Kobe earthquake .

Honourings and prices

Miyamoto took part in the annual song contest Kōhaku Uta Gassen organized by the Japanese TV station NHK from 1995 to 2000 as a prominent presenter.

His works belong to the inventory of many museums around the world, such as the National Museum of Art , Ōsaka and the Museum of Modern Art (MMK) in Frankfurt am Main .
