São Lourenço de Mamporcão is a Portuguese place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Estremoz with 525 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of São Lourenço de Mamporcão and São Bento de Ana Loura were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de São Lourenço de Mamporcão e São Bento de Ana Loura . São Lourenço de Mamporcão is the seat of this newly formed community.
history
The local church is of an unknown date, but its reconstruction is documented in 1534 . At that time there was already an independent municipality here. In church records from 1758 , the community is described as home to around 200 families with around 600 men and a similar number of women. In the 1960s and 1970s, the place experienced some waves of emigration, especially to the industrial cities in the greater Lisbon area, roughly today's Região de Lisboa .
economy
The community is dominated by agriculture. In particular, olive oil , cork and vegetables are grown and processed . Animal husbandry is another focus.
A sausage factory for traditionally produced regional sausage specialties, a company for further processing of cork, and a maintenance company for agricultural machines should be mentioned as industrial companies.
Tourism plays a minor role here and is operated in the form of rural tourism , for example in the Herdade da Chaminé manor .
