Séamus Cunningham

Séamus Cunningham (born July 7, 1942 in Castlebar , County Mayo , Ireland ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle in England.

Life

Cunningham attended St. Nathy's College in Ballaghaderreen . At St. John's College , Waterford , he prepared for his ordination , which he received on July 12, 1966.

In 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed 13th Bishop of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle. He was ordained episcopal on March 20, 2009, by the Archbishop of Liverpool , Patrick Kelly ; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Ambrose Griffiths and the Bishop of Lancaster, Michael Campbell .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 4, 2019.
