Sérgio de Souza Fontes Arruda (born April 15, 1943 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Sérgio de Souza Fontes Arruda is married to Geo Alencar Arruda and they have two children. In 1965 he studied Concurso de Preparação à Carreira de Diplomata (CPCD) at the Rio Branco Institute . In 1966 he received a Bachelor of Laws from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro . In 1983 he completed a Curso de graduação de nível superior at the Rio Branco Institute. From 1968 to 1971 he was Secretary of the Second Class in Madrid . From 1971 to 1974 he was promoted from 2nd class legation secretary to first class legation secretary in Ottawa . From 1974 to 1977 he was assistant to the foreign minister. From 1978 to 1983 he was in charge of the Itamaraty's public relations . From 1983 to 1987 he was Counselor in Luanda . From 1987 to 1990 he was employed by the Brazilian representation at the international atomic energy organization in Vienna . From 1990 to 1993 he was Counselor in Beijing . From 1994 to 1995 he headed the Agência Brasileira de Cooperação (ABC) ( development cooperation ).

From June 29, 1995 to November 27, 2000, he was Ambassador to Kingston and was simultaneously accredited to the Nassau government and the International Seabed Authority . From 2001 to 2003 he was the office manager of the Minister of Culture. From 2003 to 2006 he chaired the Board of Directors of the Fundação Visconde de Cabo-Frio . From 2006 to 2008 he was Consul General in Rotterdam . From May 19, 2008 to November 8, 2011 he was ambassador to Kuala Lumpur . From November 8, 2011 to May 8, 2013, he was ambassador to Baku .
