Sörenberg is a protected landscape area (protected area number 1.19.011) in the Rems-Murr district .

Location and description

The protected area was created by a collective ordinance of the former Waiblingen District Office for the protection of parts of the landscape in the Waiblingen district of November 4, 1968. The Rems-Murr District District Office's ordinance of August 15, 2016 revised the legal basis. The ordinance of 1968 became invalid as far as it concerned areas of the previous landscape protection area Sörenberg.

It essentially comprises the Sörenberg with its agricultural landscape, in particular its large, connected orchards and vineyards between Korb and the Neustadt district of Waiblingen . The major part of the landscape protection area lies to the west, a small part to the east of the federal highway 14 and belongs to the natural area 107 - Schurwald and Welzheimer Wald within the natural spatial main unit 10 - Swabian Keuper-Lias-Land .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose according to the Landscape Protection Ordinance is to preserve the diversity, uniqueness and beauty and the special cultural-historical importance of the landscape, also because of its special importance for recreation, as well as the efficiency and functionality of the natural balance and the regenerative capacity and sustainable usability of the natural resources including the habitats and To preserve, develop and restore habitats of certain wild animal and plant species.

In particular, the protection purpose includes the preservation of the large contiguous orchards as a habitat for animals and plants, the safeguarding and development of the characteristic diversity of the landscape and the preservation of the landscape as an undisturbed and freely accessible adventure space for relaxation. In addition, the preservation and conservation development of dry stone walls, ravines, field hedges, field trees and orchards as landscape-defining land and usage forms on the Sörenberg for the sustainable protection and restoration of an agricultural cultural landscape.
