Südaba Jamshid qizi Hasanova ( Azerbaijani Südabə Cəmşid qızı Həsənova , Azerbaijani-Cyrillic Судаба Гасанова; born 1947 in Şərur Rayon , Azerbaijani Republic of Azerbaijan ) has been a judge at the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan SSR since December 2005 . She was a politician and between 1995 and 2000 the country's first female justice minister and from 2000 to 2005 chairwoman of the Supreme Court .

Life

Südabe Hasanova was born in 1947 in the Şərur Rayon, which is now part of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic . In 1971 she completed her studies in law at the State University of Azerbaijan from. She completed further training in 1990 at the higher party school in Baku .

Hasanova is married and has two children.

career

After graduating, Hasanova worked as a consultant at the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan SSR until 1973. Then she was a judge at the People's Court of the Kirov District in Baku until 1979 . In 1979 Hasanova was elected judge and member of the presidium of the Baku City Court.

Hasanova's election as a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Azerbaijani SSR took place on March 27, 1980. There she was chairman of the disciplinary council for judges of the courts of the Soviet republic.

From November 1980 to 1987 she taught cadres in the administrative department of the Central Committee of the Azerbaijani Communist Party (AKP).

Minister of Justice

Südaba Hasanova was appointed First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Azerbaijani SSR in April 1987. In the Cabinet Heydar Aliyev I was from 10 January 1995 to 1998 Acting Minister of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Hasanova was the first woman in this position. On January 10, 1998, she was appointed Minister of Justice for the country. In the second Aliyev cabinet , she was also chairman of the Judicial and Legal Council under the leadership of President Aliyev since December 1998 . By decree of the President she was given the rank of Counselor of the Third Degree in 1995 and the rank of Counselor of Justice of the Second Degree in 1998.

From 1998 to 2000 Hasanova was a member of the State Commission for the Draft Constitution and a member of the Commission for Pardons , Education , Public Health and the Fight against Corruption . At the same time she was editor-in-chief of the magazine “Qanunçuluq” and of the bulletin “Normativ hüquqi aktlar” ( English Normative and Legal Acts ). Hasanova was a member of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

President of the Supreme Court

By decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on April 18, 2000, Südaba Hasanova was appointed chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic and relieved of her position as Minister of Justice the following day. She became editor-in-chief of the Supreme Court Bulletin. She was removed from office after five years but remained a Supreme Court judge for several months.

Judge at the Constitutional Court

On the recommendation of President İlham Əliyev , Hasanova was appointed judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan by decision of the National Assembly (Milli Majlis) on December 23, 2005. She is one of nine judges there, and the vice-president of the court is a woman.

Honors

By decree of the president of February 5, 2007, Südaba Hasanova was awarded the Şöhrət Order (Order of Glory) for her work in the administration of justice and the judiciary .
