Location of Süderleda in Lower Saxony

Süderleda ( Suurlee in Low German ) is a district of the municipality of Wanna in the combined municipality of Land Hadeln in the Lower Saxony district of Cuxhaven . At around 850 years old, Süderleda is Wanna's oldest part of the village.

geography

Süderleda is located about 23 km southeast of the district town of Cuxhaven .

history

There is evidence of a chapel in Süderleda in the 13th century (around 1230). At that time, Süderleda was the 4th  parish of the Hadelner Sietland. The church, the cemetery and the preacher's house were located there on what is now the Süderledaer Hof. According to documents, the church was still there in 1230. This was moved to Westerwanna around 1369, using the broken material. In 1239, Duke Albert of Saxony sold the Emmelken stream to the parish people of Süderleda . In this connection there are two further statements in the literature: "The Emmelker Strom (Amlake?) But the Süderleda, bordering Ilienworth , bought in 1227 from Duke Albert von Sachsen-Lauenburg" and "The first parish to be documented is Süderleda, in 1239, whose church was moved to Wanna later, but before 1402 ”. These indications show that the settlement of the adjacent marshland in Hadeln must also have originated from Süderleda - in addition to Lüderskoop , Nordleda and Wanna .

The 14th century cemetery is now just a pasture, but you can still find bones from time to time. The part of the forest and the area where the chapel and cemetery were located are now called “Haubusch”, although together with the “Great Court”, which is no longer preserved, they formed the artery of Süderleda. The chronicle of the neighboring Nordleda writes, quote: “... it should be noted that with Süderleda is not meant today, but only the area near the current Haubusch. Here you can still see the first settlements, at least on the northern edge of the Geest , in the so-called "Diekshörn"; Here the houses could still be built on firm sand, and because of the traffic they lived very close to the Leestrom. ”This historic river - at that time a tributary of the Medem - was called the Löh , later Leh or Lee, and the settlement south of it was therefore called Süderleda (formerly also Süderlede or Süd-Leda ).
