Systematics

The Achiropsettidae family was first established in 1990 by the South African ichthyologist Phillip C. Heemstra . In the latest revision of the bony fish classification by Ricardo Betancur-R and colleagues, they were synonymous with the family Rhombosoleidae , since the Rhombosoleidae are otherwise not a monophyletic taxon .
