The South Tyrolean primrose ( Primula tyrolensis ) is a species of plant that belongs to the genus of primroses ( Primula ).

description

The herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of growth of up to 5 centimeters. It is densely covered with sticky, colorless glandular hairs up to 0.4 millimeters long. The basal leaves are round to ovate and quickly narrow into the stem. Their front half is finely toothed and they are fleshy.

The stems are as long as the leaves and have one or two almost sessile flowers. The bracts are narrow-lanceolate and up to 8 millimeters long. The calyx, cut to the middle, is up to 8 millimeters long and has egg-shaped teeth. The crown is pink to carmine red, 15 to 25 millimeters wide and has a white, glandular throat and edged corolla lobes.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

The distribution area includes the south-east Dolomites . This species occurs at altitudes from 1000 to 2300 meters on limestone rocks.
