The Suilbergau (also Sülberggau) was a medieval district . The Gau was part of the Saxon province of Ostfalen .
Geographical location
The narrow strip of landscape between Solling and Leine bordered the Rittigau in the east, the Gau around Moringen in the south, the Augau in the west and the Wikanafeld and Aringo district in the north . The eastern part of the Suilbergau was formed by several villages that today belong to Einbeck , and the western part of several villages that belong to Dassel today .
history
The interests of the dioceses of Mainz , Hildesheim and Paderborn collided in and around the Suilbergau . The Gau belonged to the Diocese of Mainz, the Hildesheim bishops only had an influence on the Church of Dassel.
The Corveyer traditions already knew the following gentlemen in the pagus silbirgi in the first millennium :
- Emmo (822-826)
- Theodger (826-853)
- Geroldus (854-877)
- Sigifridus (877)
- Bernhardus (900-916).
In the 12th century the Suilbergau was mentioned by name as pagus sulbergowe in donations from local noblemen to the Corvey monastery , which Reinold I von Dassel confirmed.
The Gogericht was held on an elevation between what is now Strodthagen and Sülbeck .
