The chess club Johanneum Eppendorf (SKJE) is based in Hamburg .

history

The origins of the association lie in the school chess community of the learned school of the Johanneum (SGJ) founded in 1958 . In 1964 there was a merger with the school chess group of the Alstertal high school , the club founded with the name Schachklub Johanneum / Alstertal (SKJA). In 1968 and 1970 the SKJA reached promotion to the league, the top division at the time, but could not assert itself there. In 1971 the school chess group of the Eppendorf grammar school was added, and the association was renamed Schachklub Johanneum Eppendorf (SKJE). In 1980 the SKJE was able to qualify for the newly founded 2nd Bundesliga , and in 1981 they even managed to move up to the 1st Bundesliga . The 1981/82 season , however, remained the only first division season of the SKJE, you had to relegate directly as 14th. At first, the SKJE was able to assert itself in the 2nd Bundesliga, but in 1987 it was relegated to the regional league. After the SKJE had to relegate to the fifth class city league in the meantime, she was able to return to the 2nd Bundesliga for the 2013/14 season, but rose again after one season.

Well-known members of the SKJE are or were the grandmaster Tom Wedberg , the later grandmaster and German master of 2010 Niclas Huschenbeth , the later international master Bernd Stein , the international female champion Borislava Borisova , the correspondence chess grandmasters Stephan Busemann and Achim Soltau , the psychologist Friedemann Schulz von Thun and the musicians Volker Ahmels and Pär Lammers .

The SKJE is a member of the Hamburg Chess Association as well as the Hamburg Chess Youth Association (HSJB).
