Heidi Albertsen

Heidi Albertsen (born September 1, 1976 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish model and actress. She is the Goodwill Ambassador for Life Project for Africa and the Lower Eastside Service Center .

childhood

Albertsen was born in Copenhagen , Denmark . Her first job, at the age of 10, was delivering newspapers in her hometown of Copenhagen. Later she was a dishwasher in a restaurant, she worked in a butcher's shop and sold chocolate in a candy store. As a young girl, Albertsen suffered from obesity. She eventually lost the weight and, as she says, was "strongly advised to try as a model" at the time.

In 1993, at the age of 17, she won the worldwide finals of the annual model competition Elite Model Look , the model agency Elite Model Management , in which more than 350,000 candidates from 80 cities in 70 countries on the 5 continents take part. Within a few weeks Albertsen moved to Manhattan to pursue her new career as a supermodel .

Career

Albertsen has done various advertisements in magazines and on television throughout her career. She has appeared on catwalks, magazines, films and advertisements around the world since the 90s. She was on the cover and in magazines like Vogue , Harper's Bazaar , Elle , Sports Illustrated , Cosmopolitan , Vanity Fair , Shape , Woman , M! as well as several fitness magazines. She works as a model in numerous campaigns by La Perla , L'Oréal , Guess , Nicole Miller , Roberto Cavalli and Victoria's Secret . She has appeared on MTV , E-Channel , Oxygen , Good Morning America, and other shows. Albertsen has worked for American Express , Armani , Comme des Garçons , Clairol , Dove (Unilever) , Fruit of the Loom , Neutrogena and Vera Wang , among others.

Fitness magazine voted her Body of the Year in 2000 .

The photo shoots with designer Nicole Miller , a friend of Albertsen; as well as photo shoots for Escada with the photographer Albert Watson in Nice , France and with the photographer Fabrizio Ferri in Milan , Italy ; as well as for the cover picture and the calendar of the Max magazine with the photographer Antoine Verglas , are, according to Albertsen, among the most exciting of their career.

In addition to her appearances in advertising and magazines, Albertsen also appeared in a number of films. She worked with Nicolas Cage in National Treasure , with Ben Stiller in Zoolander , in Celebrity from Woody Allen and David Breashears IMAX film Kilimanjaro: To the Roof of Africa for the National Geographic Society .

Albertsen was selected by Breashears in 2000 to take part in climbing Kilimanjaro , the highest free-standing mountain in the world, in Tanzania , Africa . Seven climbers took part in the expedition, including Albertsen. She completed the ascent twice, the first time in June 2000 and then in November 2000. Albertsen described the challenge of climbing the summit at 5,895 meters as an experience that challenged her “physically, emotionally and intellectually”. She documented the climbing tours by making her own documentary film, as well as using sketches, drawings and photos.

Albertsen has also made notable appearances as a judge in model and beauty competitions. In 2005, she was the star-juror of the Miss Universe - beauty contest , in Thailand took place. In 1994 Albertsen was a star juror in the worldwide finals of the Elite Model Look modeling competition , which took place in Ibiza , Spain . Between 1995 and 1999 she worked as a juror for the national elite model look competitions in Denmark , Indonesia and Thailand.

In 2011 Albertsen took part in the Danish edition of the TV show Masterchef , which had the highest ratings in all national Masterchef editions in Europe .

Charity work

Albertsen is the spokesperson for many charities that support orphans, children with HIV and AIDS, and the homeless. She continues to work as a goodwill ambassador for various charities. She is ambassador and spokeswoman for the Life Project for Africa , a non-governmental organization whose goal is to save lives and fight poverty in Africa by organizing health promotion, education and poverty reduction projects, as well as housing for the homeless. She is an ambassador and spokesperson for the Lower Eastside Service Center ( LESC ), a non-governmental organization committed to providing a wide range of treatments and care to New Yorkers with drug addiction or mental health problems. She is an advocate for the LESC's Pregnant Women and Infants Program , which was created to support previously unserved pregnant women with opiate addiction. She is also committed to Bridge2Life , a LESC aid project that primarily supports children from families who are going through withdrawal.

education

Between 2006 and 2010, while working as a model, Albertsen studied part-time in New York City at the National Academy of Design , Hunter College and the City University of New York . In addition, she attended Parsons The New School for Design and the Art Students League of New York .

Private life

Albertsen is committed to a healthy, balanced lifestyle that combines fitness, beauty, strength and style. She is an active athlete. Among other things, she cooks and paints, climbs, goes water skiing, runs marathons, plays tennis and golf and does yoga. She lives in Manhattan , one of the boroughs of New York City .
