Interior of an ST12

ST12 is a series of Darmstadt trams . The abbreviation stands for S traßenbahn- T the rubbing cars 12 . Series. HEAG owns a total of ten of these eight-axle articulated wagons , they have the road numbers 9115–9124. The vehicles have the Geamatic-C control system, and for the first time the setpoint generator had to remain pressed while driving. The high-floor ST12 are largely identical in construction to the predecessor series ST10 and ST11 , which have now been completely retired , although the former were six-axle models . The ST12 are the last high-floor wagons in Darmstadt today. Manufacturers were Waggon Union and AEG. All vehicles are directional vehicles . The ST12 were converted from roll-up to LED displays.

Like its two predecessor series, the ST12 is based on the cars 22-25 of the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft from Karlsruhe, which were procured in 1975, but which had electrical equipment from BBC .

Structure and equipment

The ST12 is 27 meters long and consists of three vehicle modules, with a double-axle motor bogie under the first and last and two double-axle Jakobs bogies under the first and second articulation. The total drive power is 4 × 98.5 kilowatts, the motors are air-cooled. All five doors are double outer pivoting doors and have a step. Each car has 64 seats and 178 standing places, so a total of 242 people can be transported. The handrails are painted gray in all vehicles. All vehicles had a ticket machine at the second door , which meant that one seat was omitted. Since January 1, 2015, these have been out of service or only their holders are available.

commitment

The ST12 are on schedule on all lines except Line 3. On Line 1 only when traveling to and from the depot. They are used in mixed traffic with the ST13 and ST14 series .

Since the low-floor sidecars of the type SB9 were delivered in 1994 , the ST12 have mostly been used with one. This means that a low-floor area can be offered despite the high-floor railcar. For this reason, the ST11 was no longer allowed to be used on lines 1 or 3 after 1994, as these are operated without a sidecar. Nevertheless, the ST12 can also be used solo as an exception.

Naming

Some ST12 were named after the Darmstadt twin cities:
