The sports club Aue Liebenau from 1919 e. V. is a sports club from Liebenau , Lower Saxony . It was founded on August 24, 1919 and, with 405 members in the handball , football and table tennis divisions, is one of the sports clubs with the largest number of members in the community of Liebenau and in the Nienburg / Weser district . Founded as a football club , SV Aue Liebenau was best known for the success of its handball department, whose teams played in two longer episodes (from 1981 to 1993 and from 2009 to 2013) in the Lower Saxony handball league . The club is also the home club of the former Bundesliga handball player Kilian Kraft .
history
The history of the club goes back to the pre-war period of the First World War , when the teacher Henry Pape, who was himself a soccer player at Hannover 96 , gathered the youngsters around him to teach them how to play soccer. After the end of the First World War, the students of Papes founded the SV Aue Liebenau on August 24, 1919. In the 100-year history of the club, all of the club's departments (soccer, handball and table tennis) have made up the top teams in the Nienburg / Weser district several times over.
Soccer
The footballers of SV Aue Liebenau represented the district for many years at the district level and in the 1970s were the most successful team in district Nienburg football , ahead of their long-term rivals ASC Nienburg . The footballers of SV Aue Liebenau have also been leading the Eternal Table of the Nienburg / Weser football district league for several years and are therefore considered the dinosaurs of the Nienburg football district.
Handball
In 2001, the women's handball team of SV Aue Liebenau was the only women's handball team in the Nienburg / Weser district to be promoted to the Lower Saxony upper league. In the 2010/11 season the team qualified for the DHB Cup and lost to TSV Burgdorf in the first round with 25:41.
Most recently, the men played again in the top division of Lower Saxony from 2009 to 2013. The late 1970s and early 1980s were shaped by the success of the first men's handball team, which made a steep climb. The team first secured the championship in the DSL league in 1977 before, under the aegis of the former national goalkeeper Wilfried Meyer, they managed a march from the district class to the district league to the Lower Saxony Oberliga, where the team played from 1981 to 1993. In 1987, SV Aue Liebenau was runner-up there behind TSV Hannover-Anderten , while the team came third in 1982, 1985 and 1988.
Table tennis
In addition to the footballers and handball players, the table tennis players also represented the club several times in the district league (most recently in 2015/16), so that they too were among the best table tennis players in the Nienburg / Weser district.
