The SV Reha Augsburg is a sports club from Augsburg for people with disabilities . The club's wheelchair basketball team, which plays under the name AuXBurg Basketz , was part of the Bundesliga with its first team .
history
The SV Reha Augsburg was founded on May 12, 1949 by war-disabled men who had lost body parts in the Second World War so that they could practice sporting activities together. Due to its unique position as the only sports club for people with disabilities in Augsburg, the number of members increased steadily in the following decades, so that SV Reha currently has around 250 members. You can choose from ten departments: boccia , cardiac sports , bowling , wheelchair sports for children, wheelchair basketball , wheelchair dance , swimming , sports for blind and visually impaired people, table tennis and wheelchair rugby . SV Reha has its own clubhouse , which is located in the Antonsviertel district.
Wheelchair basketball
The wheelchair basketball department of SV Reha was founded in 1981 and is open to both amateur and competitive athletes . Birgit Meitner, an athlete from SV Reha, was part of the German national team that won the silver medal in the women's wheelchair basketball competition at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing . In addition, national players Laura Fürst and Maria Kühn played for SV Reha at the beginning of their careers.
