Saïd El Khadraoui (born April 9, 1975 in Leuven ) is a Belgian politician for the Socialist Partij Anders (sp.a).

Life

El Khadraoui was born in Leuven to a Moroccan father and a Belgian mother. He attended the Sint-Pieterscollege in Leuven and then studied modern history at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven . In 1997 he completed his studies with a licentiate and in 1998 completed his additional training in international relations.

In 1994, at the age of 19, El Khadraoui was elected to the Löwen City Council for six years. After completing his studies, he took on a position as an employee in the cabinet of the then Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Louis Tobback and, after his resignation, as an employee in the cabinet of his successor Luc Van den Bossche . After the 1999 elections, he worked for Johan Vande Lanotte , then Minister for Budget, Social Integration and Social Economy , for a few months . In the same year he ran for the European Parliament , but could not get enough votes.

In October 1999, El Khadraoui was accepted into the diplomatic service and completed part of his training in New York City . In the local elections in 2000, El Khadraoui achieved 1306 votes and was appointed aldermen in Leuven in early 2001 . In 2003 he was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Deputies for the constituency of Leuven . After Kathleen Van Brempt left the European Parliament, El Khadraoui replaced the sp.a on October 7, 2003 and was confirmed in office in the 2004 and 2009 European elections . He is a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament as well as the Committee on Transport and Tourism and the delegation to the EU-Armenia, EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committees.

Since 2003, El Khadraoui has also been a member of the national executive committee of sp.a and, since 2007, its secretary for international affairs.
