Political career

Jungwirth took over in 2005 for the Green Economy mandate in the Chamber of Commerce of Styria and was at the Chamber of Commerce Election 2010 national spokesperson and top candidate of the Green Economy Styria.

In the state elections in Styria in 2010 , she ran for Die Grünen in second place in the state electoral district of Graz and the surrounding area and in fourth place on the state list. After Werner Kogler waived her mandate , she moved into the Styrian Landtag via a basic mandate in the state electoral district , where she was sworn in as a member of parliament on October 21, 2010. In the state parliament she was responsible for the departments economy, budget, labor market, Europe, environment, energy, climate protection, nature protection, human rights, integration, education, development cooperation, women, culture, housing and building regulations. From September 2011 to May 2015, Jungwirth was also the chairwoman of the Green Landtag Club.

Jungwirth has been a member of the federal executive committee of the green economy since November 2010. From September 2011 to June 2015, she was also a member of the State Executive Committee of the Greens in Styria and a delegate to the Extended Federal Executive Committee of the Greens. Since June 2015 Jungwirth has been a mandate of the economic parliament of the Chamber of Commerce for the green economy. In November 2016, she was elected federal spokesperson by the General Assembly of the Green Economy, and at the beginning of 2017 she succeeded Volker Plass in this position. In March 2017, she renounced her state parliament mandate, which was subsequently exercised by Lara Köck .

In the Chamber of Commerce, Jungwirth is currently (as of 2020) a member of the Extended Presidium, the division conference of the Federal Trade and Crafts division and, as a division representative, a member of the Federal Economic Parliament. For the 2020 Chamber of Commerce elections, she is the nationwide top candidate for the green economy .

Jungwirth is particularly committed to the greening of the economy, the interests of one-person companies (EPU) and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the specific needs of women entrepreneurs.

Commitment to the Schwarze Sulm power plant

Jungwirth gained greater prominence from May 2012 onwards through its commitment to a planned power plant on the Schwarzen Sulm . Jungwirth described the project as an "environmental crime", called for resistance and is said to have blocked the access to the construction site, for which she was sued under civil law by the project operator. Jungwirth was right in almost all points in the second instance by the Graz Higher Regional Court . In 2017 Jungwirth was awarded the "Umweltoswald" by the Styrian Nature Conservation Union for its commitment .

Commitment to self-employed recipients of childcare allowance

In December 2018, Jungwirth filed a complaint against the then Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Sebastian Kurz , on suspicion of abuse of office. She justified her suspicions with “illegal restitution notices” against self-employed recipients of childcare allowance , which were sent out by the social insurance institute for the commercial economy (SVA). In her criticism, she referred to a ruling by the Supreme Court and a letter from SVA chairman Harald Mahrer , but the complaint was made against the Federal Chancellor, as he has the right to issue instructions under the Childcare Allowance Act (Section 25 (2)). After further initiatives in the economic parliament , inquiries to the President of the Chamber of Commerce and SVA chairman Harald Mahrer and model lawsuits for those affected, the SVA initially relented in March 2019 and asked for negotiations to be postponed in the cases concerned. In May 2019, the Federal Government Kurz I announced that it would repair the legal regulation. The Austrian National Council reorganized the relevant law in its session on July 2, 2019, which Jungwirth recorded as a success for the green economy.
