action

Tom Delaney is a respected doctor in a luxury community in England, enclosed by a high fence. He has just lost his wife Rachel to cancer and is struggling with self-doubt. After a sprawling party at Sia Marshall's house, his eldest daughter Jenny has disappeared. Together with Detective Sergeant Sophie Mason, his current girlfriend, and his best friend Pete Mayfield, he tries to find his daughter. But everyone in their neighborhood has a dark secret.

When Jenny's friend Chris Chahal is found dead, Tom suspects just about everyone. Ultimately, he comes across a plot. As a teenager, Rachel and four friends started a fire in their old school, which killed eight students. They were able to hide the secret for years until Jenny discovered the events of that time with her mother's diaries. She had told this to her friend Chris. First she stayed with Helen Crowthorne, who lives in a messie apartment. However, this was burned down by the seedy nightclub owner Bobby, who also kidnapped Jenny.

Sophie and Tom confront Bobby, who then shoots himself. Shortly thereafter, however, Tom finds out that it was Sophie who murdered Chris because he wanted to blackmail her. Tom persuades her to surrender.

reception

The series was largely discussed favorably;

“Safe” illustrates the phrase “If you don't want to hear, you have to feel” in the tradition of an - albeit eight-part - “crime scene” using the topoi from teenage horror films: 1. Not responding to the parents' admonitions - in this case one of the parents - Listen; 2. the consumption of alcohol and drugs; 3. Guard potentially dangerous secrets. (...) Anyone who starts with “Safe” will hardly stop in the middle. You want, you have to know, how the whole thing ends. A good, a bad, a forgiving one? The international production cannot be blamed for a lack of tension, sooner or later almost everyone becomes suspicious. "

- Jürg Zbinden : Neue Zürcher Zeitung

“In this series, co-produced by Michael C. Hall, which, despite some disappointingly simple plot turns, quickly gets you hooked, only one thing is certain: that the facts always get a new and usually the worst possible twist right up to the very end. And that the digital world without reliable gates not only constitutes a parallel and illusory world, but perhaps brings the contexts of experience into the children's room all by itself. To dream of 'gated communities', at least as the series 'Safe' shows, is a gross beginner's mistake, analogue-naive guardians. "
