Barnaby George "Barns" Courtney (born November 17, 1990 in Ipswich ) is a British singer-songwriter and musician.

Life

Barns Courtney moved to Seattle with his family at the age of four and returned to the UK at 15. He first made a name for himself as the singer of the indie rock band SleeperCell, who took part in the Orange unsignedAct show on Channel 4 . He then joined Dive Bella Dive, who were signed to Island Records and played at the 2012 Download Festival . The band recorded material in Los Angeles for their first album, which was never released. Instead, Island Records released the band from their contract.

Barns Courtney then attempted a solo career, but the termination of his contract meant that he was homeless for a while. He survived in London as a cigarette seller and employee at PC World and was living with friends and acquaintances at that time.

In 2015 he was finally able to gain a foothold in the music industry. Glitter & Gold , his first single, was on BBC Introducing and played by Phil Taggert on BBC Radio 1 . In 2016 he was allowed to appear on BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. The song also reached chart positions on Spotify and iTunes .

In 2015 Harvey Weinstein also decided to use his song Fire in John Wells' film Im Rausch der Sterne . The song reached chart positions in various Billboard special charts .

Courtney performed at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas in 2016 and was allowed to appear with Fire on Conan O'Brien's talk show Conan . He then opened for bands and artists as diverse as The Libertines , The Who , Ed Sheeran , Tom Odell and Fitz and the Tantrums . In 2016 his first extended play The Dull Drums was released . In 2017, the song Hellfire was used as the official theme song for the WWE Extreme Rules event .

Barn Courtney's debut album The Attractions of Youth was released on September 29, 2017 via Virgin EMI and Universal Records . In May 2018, Glitter & Gold was used as the theme song for the Netflix series Safe .
