Saint Irénée is a district in Lyon in the 5th arrondissement . It is close to Saint-Just and the commune of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon on the Fourvière hill .
Its center point is the Sainte-Irenée square near the church of the same name ( Église Saint-Irénée de Lyon ).
Attractions
Roman epoch
Parts of aqueducts exist in the quarter . In various places there are remains of pillars of the Gier aqueduct , of thermal baths that were supplied by the aqueduct of the Yzeron , and there are remains of a reservoir that was connected to the aqueduct of Brévenne .
Here is also the tomb of Turpio , which was discovered together with 10 other tombs in 1885 at the exit of Lyon.

The fortress Saint-Irénée (built between 1832 and 1843) is the largest student city in Lyon (around 1500 students) with a cafeteria , the ENSTATT and an office of the Onisep .
