Saint-Pavin is a former French commune in the department of Orne . Today Saint-Pavin is part of the municipality of Bazoches-au-Houlme .

history

After the French Revolution , Saint-Pavin initially formed an independent municipality, in which a total of 103 residents were registered in 1793. Due to the same name as the municipality of Saint-Pavin-des-Champs , which was incorporated into Le Mans in 1855 , Saint-Pavin was also referred to as Saint-Pavin-sur-Beize . The name affix goes back to the river Baize , which runs in close proximity to the village . The municipality belonged to the canton of Athis-de-l'Orne in the Orne department. While a decrease in the population had already been noted in 1800 with 92 inhabitants, this decrease accelerated, so that the community only had 71 inhabitants in 1806. In 1812, Saint-Pavin was incorporated into Bazoches-au-Houlme together with La Chapelle-Monvoisin . The place gained fame as the birthplace of Rémy de Gourmont , who was born in 1858 in the castle of Saint-Pavin.
