The Saint Maries River (also St. Maries River ) is an approximately 65 km long left tributary of the Saint Joe River in the Idaho Panhandle in the northwest of the US state Idaho .

The Saint Maries River arises near the village of Clarkia at the confluence of its two headwaters, the West Fork and Middle Fork Saint Maries River . The river flows in the upper reaches in a northwest direction past the places Emerald Creek, Fernwood, Santa and Mashburn. Idaho State Highway 3 follows the course of the river on this stretch. Below Mashburn, the river cuts through the mountains for a stretch of around 20 km and has numerous rapids. For the last few kilometers, Idaho State Highway 3 follows the river again before it flows into the Saint Joe River in the city of St. Maries . The Saint Maries River drains a low-lying area of the Northern Clearwater Mountains . Accordingly, the spring flood starts relatively early in the year with a monthly maximum discharge in April.

The lower 36 kilometers of the river between Mashburn and St. Maries offer white water of difficulty level II – III or III + and are ideal for rafting or kayaking .
